Frequently Asked Questions
Here are some common questions and hopefully answers about Sports Therapy.

I don’t do any sport at all. Are the treatments you offer the right course of action for me?
Most likely at least one of the treatments I offer are good for you. The techniques that I use can be an effective treatment to firstly eliminate, then aid recovery of soft tissue injuries and ailments.
I don’t understand what some of the treatments involve.
You don’t have to know about or request a specific treatment. The ‘Services’ page on this website is for your information. I can use multiple treatments during each appointment depending on what the condition presented is.
What types of conditions do you work with?
I work with all types of conditions from sports injuries to occupational injuries. I also work with clients with various ailments like Fibromyalgia, Sciatica, Scoliosis, gait and posture disorders, arthritis, muscle and joint pain plus more.

What’s the difference between Sports and Deep Tissue Massage?
Sports Massage focuses on a particular injury. If, for example, a footballer has pulled a calf muscle, then I will work on that localised area.

Deep Tissue Massage is more general. If someone works in an office or drives for a living and they have aches and pains in their shoulders or back, then I will work on the general area to see if there’s any knock-on symptoms.
How often should I come for a treatment?
This really depends on the circumstances and needs of the individual.
Some require weekly visits short term to recover quickly from a sports injury or acute muscular disorder. This is because the body takes time to adapt to the therapy and initially will try to fight back by trying to revert to pre therapy state.

Once an injury has improved, many clients choose to follow a maintenance programme of sessions. This is decided on need, time and of course your budget.

My advice is that everyone should try and get treatments as regularly as possible, especially with the fast pace and stresses of today’s world. I'm a firm believer in prevention over cure.
What do I bring to my appointment?
If you have access to scans or X-rays if applicable then this will help. If not, then don’t worry.
What do I wear for my appointment?
I always advise you to wear loose clothing, especially around the area being worked on. If the affected area isn’t easily accessed, then you will be asked if you’re ok to undress, in private. You can then cover yourself with the towel provided for us to continue.

Is it guaranteed that I will recover with treatment?
Unfortunately, nothing is guaranteed as far as health and wellbeing. What I can guarantee is that I will give my 100% best to get to the root of your issue. Providing you follow any exercises given and realise that an issue that may have developed over months or perhaps years may not be sorted out in 60 minutes, we will have a good chance of success. If I feel that no progress is being made, I will always be completely honest with you and refer you to an appropriate alternative professional.

How much will it cost?
Please see pricing page.

Can I claim the cost through my insurance?
I don’t work directly with insurance companies, but I will happily provide invoices/receipts if your private or your work insurance has a provision for claiming the cost back. Please check with your insurers first though!
